Out-of-work anthropologist Minoa Diamond is back in Santa Fe when a childhood friend dies of rattlesnake bite. The police call it an accident. But rattlers turn up in too many strange places, like a venom trader’s hideout, a New Age diva’s oracle chamber, a deviant Penitente cult and somebody’s bathroom in a cheap southside housing development. Minoa must chase a rattler killer from the adobe mansions of Santa Fe’s historical zone to forgotten villages and ancient Indian pueblos in northern New Mexico to find out where the venom is really coming from.

Searching for information on a teen girl’s disappearance in picturesque Spaña forces her to confront warring gangs, colorful lowriders, corrupt cops, lowlife traffickers and her own painful past as a teenage runaway. When the investigation reveals rot at the high school, Minoa must chase a killer through the mountains of northern New Mexico to save more teen girls, and maybe redeem herself.

Death at Apache Kid

A UFO hovers over a cliff in Apache Kid Wilderness where a group of grad students are vision questing. Soon after one of the campers is found dead. The death throws the small central New Mexican town of Socorro, home to a sci-tech college, into an uproar, with UFO fanatics declaring it’s an alien abduction. The dead woman’s eccentric friends distrust each other; some want to make money off the abduction publicity, others fear what’s really behind the ‘accident.’ As a result of the ensuing scandal, a certain attractive professor may lose his job. Despite sighting the ‘flying saucer’ with her own eyes, Minoa Diamond comes to doubt her own perceptions, and what she believed about her own life, as she tries to find the truth of what happened at Apache Kid.
